One Wednesday afternoon, it seemed like a good idea to have merienda in Din Tai Fung in Megamall after Jason’s passport renewal. He was originally eyeing Tim Ho Wan but since we haven’t tried Din Tai Fung yet, we decided to give it a shot.
Judging from the seats outside Din Tai Fung, I presumed that it usually has a long queue so we were lucky to be seated immediately. Well, of course it was merienda time and it was a weekday – the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
Din Tai Fung reminded Jason of the restaurant in the cruise as it was a long hallway. Their seats were quite close to each other so it was a bit difficult to converse since the seat next to us was literally a breath away. It was just my preference since we usually eat in restaurants to enjoy, relax and talk. But at that time it was hard to converse without overhearing the conversation of the people beside us.
But anyway, Jason was famished so he wanted to eat, talk a bit and run. Though xiao long bao was the specialty of this place, we decided to go for their Shrimp and Pork Wontons with House Specialty Sauce.
This was my favorite among the 3 dishes we ordered. I love spicy food so this sat well with my tastebuds. It had this curry or cumin flavor to it and I also liked how the spiciness blended well with the flavor. It was so appetizing just by looking at it, and when we had it, it didn’t disappoint.
We also got their Fried Noodles with Vegetables (Php 145). Personally this was the least we liked here as there was this dried vegetable that gets stuck in our throats every time we swallow. Yikes. Both of us had the same experience about it so I guess we will be passing on this the next time we go back.
Since Hong Kong, I became a fan of Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun. Here in Din Tai Fung Philippines it costs Php 85 for 2. Mjulz introduced it to us last October and since then I have been on the lookout for the best Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun. yum. 😀 We also had this in Majesty Restaurant in Hong Kong and that was the best but more on that in another entry.
As for the Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun in Din Tai Fung, I kind of felt “bitin”. The lava wasn’t as oozing. I was expecting a more luscious and flowing kind of yellow lava.
But all is well as we had our fill. We were satisfied with the wonton and should we visit again I’ll surely be having this if not their Xiao Long Bao. Din Tai Fung is a place we’ll be visiting if we want quality short orders and want to indulge a bit.
